Back from New Mexico…
May 28th
Six Guns and I took off from Tucumcari this morning. Decent run home! As always, a pleasure to run the roads with you! A big shout out to Des and Kendall for an excellent event!
Well, I’m back. I’ve been dodging massive and severe storms all weekend. Not entirely successful…the dodging. Not at all. Seems after failing to significantly clobber me outbound or during the event (not to say they didn’t try though) they simply set up a blockade around the Metroplex. Yeah, okay. Playing nice time is over. Bring it.
I’m here and they’re gone, so that’s settled…for the moment anyway.
The road gremlins ate my clutch lever somewhere between Tucumcari, New Mexico and Amarillo, Texas… More >
They’re Back….and I’m Gone!
May 24th
Yep, it’s some sort of disease or something. Seems to attack me every summer.
Today:

Last Summer:

I think I’ll ride to New Mexico in search of a cure. I’m headed to Tucumcari, New Mexico for a barbeque.
500 miles is reasonable for barbeque, right? Well, 500 miles each way, that is.
I’ll see you on the road!

Sproing!
May 22nd
I heard some really odd noises when the garage door was going down yesterday. Turned out the one of the lift cables that travels from the torsion spring to the bottom of the door to help lift it was fraying.
The little “pops”, “pings”, and “sproings” were because the frayed pieces were catching on the rest of the cable as it rolled up or down and pulling it further apart. If I had a faster door opener I probably could have played a tune on it! More >
Preorders/Limited Edition
May 19th
The preorders are going very well for Life Is a Road, Volume One–Limited Edition–. This is all four of the Life Is a Road books in one massive volume. 720 pages. Over 200,000 action packed words!
I have enough orders for a print run, I just have to decide how many extra to order. If you’re considering this volume, get your order in. I’ll be ordering it in batches and it really will be a limited edition and not broadly available. After the initial run sells out, I expect that it will be mostly for personal appearances and gifts/such.
I intend to ship these before the last week of June, therefore, preorders will close June 1st. That gives y’all (a technical term) a couple weeks to get your orders in!
If you prefer the individual volumes, feel free to order them too. They’re readily available and generally ship the next business day!

The bright side of the night…
May 15th
Had to come into work this morning. Bleh.
There is a bright side however.
The commute at this hour (3:30am) is a blast! A hundred-billion dollars worth of freeways and overpasses…just for me. My own private motorcycle jungle gym!
I’ll see you on the my road.
Ahhhh.
May 14th
The barbeque was great! I headed northeast out of Dallas and ran all back roads. I passed through Paris, Texas and then on into Arkansas. I then caught the Talimena Parkway and ran it back west…it’s entire length…back to Robber’s Cave.
Ate barbeque, hung out with friends, met new people, and saw roads and towns I’d never seen before.
I made it home about 2am Sunday morning. All in all, about 700 miles for the day. A successful day I’d say!
I spent all day Sunday down with a severe head cold. It pounced upon me on the way back. A sneezing attack inside a full-face helmet is a traumatic experience to say the least.
I woke up Sunday morning, and after realizing just how bad I felt, downed half a bottle of Nyquil and went back to bed. I didn’t get back up till it was time to go to work Monday. Still not 100%, but better.
As for the barbeque? Was it worth a 700 mile trip? Well, if you must ask, yes, as long as there were friends along the way.
Mmmmm….barbeque. There’s one in New Mexico Memorial Day weekend…That’s about 400 miles each way…
Well…let me look at a map.

ssssnnnnnNNNNIIIIIIFFFFfffff. Barbeque?
May 12th
Yep, I’m craving some barbeque. I could just run up the street…there’s several excellent places around here.
Hmmm…the time of year can’t be coincidental.
I can almost smell it.
Ah…Robber’s Cave! There’s some friends gathering at Robber’s Cave State Park in Oklahoma. (it’s an annual thing) for barbeque and whatnot.
It’s only a couple hundred miles…the motorcycle’s calling…
200 miles for barbeque. That’s reasonable, right?
Well, except that’s each way.
400 miles for barbeque. That’s reasonable, right?
(checks the map)
Well, except THAT road looks kind of interesting…and the back way up…ohhhh…THAT’S a neat town name…Annona, English, Negley, Valiant, Swink, “Y City” (at a “Y” in the road of course)…I’ve never been to some of these.
I’m thinking I’ve gotta run through some of these places…of course, that leads me way the hell out of the way…clear into Arkansas if I’m not paying attention. Ah, the Talhiminia Parkway…haven’t run that in a while (and the last time was in the pouring rain…at 2am).
Hmmm. Somehow it’s suddenly 400 (plus) miles instead of 200. Well, one way.
Heck, I can take the 200 way back. Should be a nice night run home…especially after barbeque.
Yah. That’ll work.
600 miles for barbeque. That’s reasonable, right?
I’ll see you on the road.

Stormrider
May 6th
My current book project is Stormrider, a full length fiction novel loosely based on characters and events introduced in this short story.
This one’s got it all. Action. Adventure. Magic. Motorcycles. Good guys. Bad guys. Gorgeous redheads. Really, what else could you need?
I’m hoping for a summer 2007 release…but I’ve a lot of writing/editing left to do and summer’s coming up fast.
This story is coming together nicely…and I’m really enjoying writing it…but…
I found myself in pain this week. Odd feeling, that. See, I’m frantically writing on Stormrider…but had a hellofa (that’s a technical term) work week. A project Wednesday resulted in an 18-hour shift. Wednesday night we were getting clobbered by intense storms, so that made the “non-project” work interesting as well.
I ended up completely wrung out and literally having absolutely no ability to write. That place…the place my ability and creativity for my writing comes from, I apparently also heavily tap for work.
The pain comes in that the story is really coming together now…and I’m really, intently wanting to work on it. Lusting after it actually. To the point where I couldn’t sleep.
I’m hoping for a summer release…but it’s not deadline pressure…I want this one.
Lusting after it, and can’t do it. Frustrating. Thus the pain. Sounds like sex after 60, but at least they make pills for that.
Y’all ever experience similar?
From past experience I’ve found that the visual arts tap a completely different place than my wordsmithing…and often using one of those places seems to refresh the other.
So, beat, tired, but wanting to work on the book…yet not able to write. Hmmm. COVER ART! I’ll work on the cover art! It’s probably time to start promoting it anyway with my existing fan-base (that’s you guys and gals!)…ya know…build a little anticipation. Plus if I get a decent version of the cover I can stick it in the endpages of my other works (free ads don’t'cha’know (another technical term)).
I’m also invited out to several events related to my books this summer….some color postcards with a flashy cover on it would be cool too…
Anyway, here’s my effort so far…
