Holidays?
Sep 27th
Wow…can you believe the end of September is barreling down us already?
The official start of the holiday season. Why, temperatures may even drop out of the 90′s or something!
Anyway, first up is Halloween…my personal favorite…this year I’m recommending you get those special someones in your life a gift…and a gift appropriate for the occasion!
My friend the Wordfaery has an audo book out…and a great Halloween story at that! Pick up Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow as done by the Word Faery’s sultry, sexy, and for this occasion…downright spooky voice. It’s a great CD. I recommend it!
She’ll even autograph ‘em for you. Click here to get your copy! And don’t wait…candy night … ur… Halloween is coming up fast!
Don’t worry…I’ll be harping about how sets of my books make great Christmas gifts later.

Will Ride for Work…
Sep 23rd
I went for a long ride Saturday. Most things I might normally need on a trip are always in my saddlebags. Thinks like basic tools, tire repair supplies, rain gear, and warmer gloves.
If I happen to be headed for for a specific place or purpose I’ll gather any other needed things into a “kit”. That kit could be as simple as grabbing my laptop because I’m on my way to work, or as complicated as full camping gear.
For Saturday, my “kit” was a duffle that contained a six-pack of diet coke and a pair of wire strippers.
Heh…yep…I went riding to do electrical work. Something over 250 miles round-trip, in fact.
My friend Mike needed some help pulling the wiring to his barn. He had already done the hard part…digging the 150+ foot ditch and burying the conduit. Yeah! No digging!
A gorgeous, flawless run down, only punctuated by a couple errant cagers, neither of which was a serious threat as I saw them coming. Early Saturday morning is a good time to get out of Dallas…the drunks have all made it home (or crashed)…and most other folks haven’t got out and about yet.
Anyway, I arrived, we ran for supplies and some eventual lunch. We got the wire pulled in, hooked up both panels, and got his basic plugs/pump/etc power hooked up in the barn. He’s going to add more lights and such, but he can get that done on his own.
The ride back was in the evening and much more eventful…there are some places out here that combined with a hot night, a wild ride, intense memories, and a lifetime’s experience on them…can be a bit…haunted. Texas summer nights are magical…but that magic is not always benevolent.
But that’s another story.
Electrical work. Heh. As good a reason as any for a ride!

Yet more Schlock!
Sep 20th
Yeah, well, I do have a history of advertising other folks book on my book site.
Howard Tayler’s popular webcomic Schlock Mercenary comes to a “dead tree” edition yet again!
The Tub of Happiness features 240 pages of Schlock goodness from the inceptions of the strip.

I highly recommend the Schlock Mercenary books. Howard and Co. does a fanatastic job of bringing the webcomic to print. The books are gorgeous and contain bonus stories, footnotes, and extra art.
The book is in preorders now. Get your copy reserved today!
Need I remind you Christmas is coming up? Sets of Schlock books would make great gifts!
Hmmm…come to think of it…sets of MY books would make great gifts too! Y’all get out your credit cards!

Turf Wars
Sep 19th
Yesterday was yard work day.
Yeah, I don’t much care for yard work…but now and again it helps to be able to expend strength against something that can take it without breaking (or filing assault charges).
With all the rain here this year, the yard has gone beserk…the tendrils that bermuda grass sends out will actually cross the sidewalks if I don’t edge for a couple weeks. It really is amazing. Usually with the heat, I don’t even have to mow from the end of May to the end of September. Anything that touches the sidewalks typically curls up and dies (or bursts into flames) from the heat. Not this year.
It took everything in my arsenal…a 7 hp push mower, weedeater, edger, rake, hoe (the garden kind…the other kind typically doesn’t do yard work), and a shovel.
I won…for now. But it’s out there watching…waiting…gathering strength for the next battle…
Oh, and that was just the turf…I’ve still got to attack the landscaping. We have all native-hardy plants and thus they are doing VERY well this season. The bushes and such are quite fuzzy.

Stormrider
Sep 10th
Well, I guess I didn’t make a summer release.
But I’m working on it! Stay tuned!

The intricacies of this story…was well as the methods of editing something that’s fiction yet this tightly connected to real events in my life is taking far more effort than I’d have guessed.
It may not seem like it sometimes…but writing is hard work!
In addition, work (the job that actually pays for all these shenanigans) has not helped things lately…it seems to be on my mind a lot more than it merits. I’m gonna have to find a way to deal with that…in the near term.
Anyway, not making excuses here…rather, updating the folks that are waiting for the book as to its progress.
Progress is…well…progressing! In about two weeks, I expect I’ll have a solid idea as to the release date. I’m working nights next week…and with the back and forth schedule switching I’m not getting much done….but I’m actually off the week after! I expect to make my big editing push and to wrap up all the loose ends. These are dynamic characters though…they may take me down yet a different path…
Hey, maybe I’ll even get to ride (other than commuting)!
