I recently had to turn on the gas for our new house…I’ve not had gas service before.
Anyway, I pay bills electronically, so I had to enter my account number…twice.
This utility company has given me a 22-digit account number…base 36 yet (letters and numbers).
That’s 22 digits!
1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
What in the world for?
A wild guess at the math [...]

The buyout stuff is done. Offers made, many accepted, some reneged by the company after employees accepted…lots of good people going. Talent. Dedication. Paid to go somewhere else.
And I’m still here.
Layoffs are scheduled for next month. I’d guess around 100 or so.

That’s what me and all my coworkers are wondering at the moment.

This story is a tragedy…pure debacle.
The summary:
1) Dallas Police put out a “bait” car…a car to attract car thieves and trap them by remotely disabling the car and locking its doors (with the thief inside) when it is stolen.
2) Car thief steals the bait car.
3) Dallas Police fail to disable the bait car. They said [...]

Not sure when, or how it happened…but we have become the impediment, not the enabler, in the Information Technologies world.
When, as a group, did we stop *asking* what folks needed to get their work done…and start *telling* them what they’d be allowed to have?
