I look into the darkness and wonder what waits.

The things I know aren’t the scary ones…1400 miles of road. Wildlife. Errant cages. Killer heat. It’s the things I carry within me that I wonder about.

The sheer lust for the ride threatens to overwhelm me. Darkly male thoughts of the wife feed and reinforce that passion and remind me that I’m not as independent…or as civilized…as I like to think I am.

In the end though…I am what I am.

“Hey boss,” the big machine grumbles, “are you ready for this?”

“I don’t know babe. Let’s go and find out.”

I’ll see you on the road.

Oh yeah. It was good.

One roast beast.
Several hundred ears of corn.
Several gallons of baked beans.
Bread, cookies, cokes.

Oh yeah. It was good. Took me and about 200 of my friends to polish Mr. Beast off.

Y’all come on out, even if you don’t ride a Valk. Once again I’ll be doing the tech sessions, teaching folks about the foibles of these machines, socializing with some of the finest people on the planet, and dispensing my own particular brand of BS.

I just *know* you’ll want to be there for the Saturday tech session just to watch some biker-guy (me) rip his bike half-in-two when he’s more than a thousand miles from home. Seems I really like exploring the nether regions of the Fat Lady and there’s a lot about her rear end that you need to know.

Always a good time…and there will even be a sandwich named after me at Toonies! They added bacon!

In conjunction with the Red River County Historical Society’s Fall Bazaar, Clarksville is holding a Literary Festival. There will be a number of area writers showcasing their books, signing autographs, and doing readings.

Come on out. Shop for books and a ton of other stuff (it is the Bazaar you know). There will be food and drinks around as well.

It’s going to be a great weekend. Come on out! I’ll have books on hand and maybe some art too!

Stew cookoff at the fairgrounds in Clarksville…$4 gets you a bowl (fund raising to pay for the Red River county fair), and then you get to wander around to all the different booths and sample as many as 25 different stews. I vowed last year to try them all and despite doing my best, well, I failed. Nobody understood when I held out the bowl and said, “Just a little please.”

“Sure thing” they said as “Bloop” goes an entire ladle full into the bowl.

The FIFTEEN I did manage to try were outstanding.

I don’t have a stew in…but I will some year soon!

Bowls for the “all you can eat” stew supper will go on sale at 4:30 p.m. and serving will begin at 5 p.m. The cost will be $4 for adults, $3 for youth, and $1 for drinks

I did my best last year to eat all I could…but I know when I’m in over my head.

Yeah, about two minutes after I took this pic I hit this horrendous storm…75mph down the freeway…cold rain and windy…soaked in seconds…lightning hitting all around…thunder cracking so loud I could feel it. ‘Wrath of God-type stuff.’

100 miles of that. Then a break…just about enough to dry out…then I hit it again. I felt like I was going through a washing machine…miles of horrendous rains, then dry out. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. There was never any light rain. It was either on…or off.

Probably 400 miles of rain alltogether.

And then there’s me, laughing my ass off…passing the trucks…splashing in the rain…riding as fast as I could see and yelling to the storms, “Is that all you’ve got!?”

Just a fraction below out of control…for hundreds of miles.

So…I’m a little bit nuts. Maybe I knew that.

It rained so hard…that 100 miles after I left the storms…after a 100 miles of dry roads…I stopped for fuel and as I was dripping on the floor at the gas station the clerk asks, “What the hell happened to you?”

Made it here. Tire’s holding up. Having a good time. 300 Valkyries all in one place…more on the way. Some of the finest people you could ever meet riding them in. Social when I need it, but in minutes I can be alone, speeding down the open road.

Perfect.

Out on the road again. I’ve needed this. I might come back.

Oh, and I was slipping and sliding in the incredible downpour and flooded streets yesterday…a disconcerting experience with a thousand pounds of man and machine. When you start riding the Valk like a dirt bike you are in EXTREME conditions…water over the tops of my boots is pretty extreme.

And then I got all stabby…

Wanted to test the tire sealant I’m running…turns out it works. More info on that here if you are interested.

Anyway…new skin…and I’ll see you on the road!
