Neat new tent idea.

Well, its new to me. The biggest will hold up to 350 lbs for something that packs down to just over 4 lbs. Its a tent / hammock / skeeter netting / rain tarp all in one deal, and packs down to about MAYBE the size of a loaf of bread. I just ordered one with my tax return. No more cold hard ground, no more rocks in your back, no more rivers running through the tent when it rains, and takes less than 5 minutes to set up.

I'm in love. I figure it would fit into a saddlebag easy, and eliminate a lot of stuff you need to take when you go on those really long trips and may be camping somewhere.

great idea Kattelyn. I was looking for something like this several years ago and may pick one up just for emergency shelter. It packs down small enough. Hammocks require 2 vertical mounts (trees) at a fixed distant (12-16ft). When camping its best to put up in a clearing. Nestled among the trees and ferns are more bugs, spiders and snakes. Snakes do not like to cross a cleared area, they may, but usually will avoid it.
I picked up a parachute hammock that fold into its own pouch and will fit into your pocket. Cost $20 at Academy. I often stop for a afternoon siesta when riding and look for a shady place.. preferably near a creek or lake. we have (had when it rains) lots here in the Texas hill country.

Y'all can save a pile of money if you visit an Army Surplus store that sells em, but this is an almost identical copy (cept it aint green) of the Jungle Hammock I picked up at Ft Clayton in the Panama Canal Zone back in 1975.  I saw one of the J.O.T.C. (Jungle Operations Training Center, then the U.S. Army's jungle warfare course) Tactical Officers sleeping in one, and I bought one as soon as I got out of the nastiest jungle I have found on this planet.  When you go to look for one, they are called (oddly enough) Jungle Hammocks.   You can also find them at http://www.junglehammock.com  $300,  http://www.hennessyhammock.com/  $149 .  There is also a site which offers several more choices, including building your own jungle hammock, http://www.roguepaddler.com/hammock.htm.

If you camp out a lot, this hammock is a MUST HAVE.  It is very light, easy to pack, and no problem to carry on a bike...and I'm a big guy...almost 6 feet and over 300 lbs.  best camping money you will EVER spend.

Just as an FYI, we've taken ours out in the mountains, in the desert, pine forests, Gulf Coast, and just about anywhere else you wanna mention. We've slept COMFORTABLY down to 27 degrees. You do need extra insulation for that extreme of temperatures, but once you're good, you're GOOD.
