CT on '09 H-D ultra
DocWobblin:
Got my CT mounted today, a Dunlop sp7000(?), putting a Hannigan Astro 2+2 hack on next month. Have a ? on pressure..sidewall tire pressure max is 51 pounds, currently running 45lbs. Since this is a new thing(darkside) to me I am wondering if you should run max pressure or back off how much %. The H-D tire was a dunlop 180/60/16, the ct is a 185/55/16. Had the H-D dealer mount the tire, wondering if anyone has had ct dealers mount and balance. Thanks for any info..Beemer(aka DocWobblin)
Daniel Meyer:
I have mine mounted often by a CT dealer...but he can't balance as my wheel won't fit on the balance machine.
That's okay though...they are easy enough to static balance.
Play with pressure and see what you like. I doubt you'll need to go to the max. I end up around 36 psi on most of mine.
And pictures! Post pictures!
DocWobblin:
Will post pics after I get the sidecar mounted(2 weeks away)..have put 1000 miles on ct(dunlop sp7000) running 46#nitrogen and am having a blast, bike is extremely stable on the highway and through the twisties..not the dragon twisties but Blue Ridge parkway type. Tire is 185/55/16 on '09 HD Ultra. Max pressure on sidewall is 51#, figured to start out 10% under and I'm very satisfied as it is...DocWobblin
Stickyfrog:
I probably would not run max on any tire. I started at 30psi for a starting point then tested 27psi (too squishy) back to 30 (still too squishy) then 34psi. Riding at 34 and I think it is the sweet spot. May try it a little higher just for the heck of it though. Hope you got yours sorted. :)
DMNordin:
What does everyone think about filling tires w/ nitrogen? As expected, I'm seeing very conflicting attitudes - the one that has me wondering is my tire guy in town isn't sold because he said the compressors the tire shops use puts out 90% nitrogen, and the canisters have 95% nitrogen, so he thinks that it needs to be 100% apparently. I like the idea of stable tire pressure, increased tire life, and cooler running, but I'm not sure how to validate that this is really what happens in the real world.
Thanks,
Doug
