Drenched in my own sweat Tasting my own blood Running desperately through the night.
Breathless, exhausted Yet still I must go on My pursuer is near, tireless, and gaining.
At times I have tried to fight Tried to turn and face my terror And always the terror has won
Faster I must flee! But my legs obey only reluctantly Feeling as if they are mired in muck
My weapons are missing And when I finally find the keys, my car won’t start. All avenues seem closed to me
Then I notice The Dragon The massive cruiser parked in a dark corner The key dangling invitingly from the ignition
I vault onto the big machine Prepared to easily make my escape But the gleaming motorcycle doesn’t start
I freeze, and cock my head. “Hmm,” I mumble as I dismount, “that’s interesting.” Understanding has burst forth
The Dragon did not start That was a mistake…that was my clue That just does not happen you see
I spun to face my Nightmare And she stood caught, exposed in her full glory Black as midnight, heavily muscled, fully 20 hands high
Glowing orange eyes Snorting fire from her nostrils Pegasus wings spread wide
I smiled, a dangerous smile She snorted in surprise My reaction was not the one expected
I leapt, and wrapped strong arms about her neck Felt her muscles ripple as she tried to dislodge me Hung on as she bucked and reared
Finally I pull her head down to mine Glare into the fiery eyes Through gritted teeth I rasp hotly into her ear, “Mine…you are MINE!”
She stands stunned Her resistance melts She knows the truth of it
She has no power over me None that I do not grant The power is mine, as it has always been
But now I know…and the world is about to get even more interesting With blinding clarity we both see She is no longer an adversary
Rather, a new guardian has been born
As we fly into the night I grin Bend low from her back and whisper to her once more, “Mine…you are MINE!”
